Namrata Shirodkar is one of the soft-spoken personalities of bollywood. The films in which she had acted she had left a lasting impression based on the softness of her character. She played the role of the daughter of a military officer in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film Pukar, opposite Anil Kapoor.

how could you miss the reference to amar akbar anthony? (the fight scene between aman and praveen -- "koi beech mein nahi aayega.." while removing the shirt).

i watched the film today on TV. whatever shortcomings it has, i think it deserves to be seen! there were many scenes where i could not resist myself from whistling, dspite watching it alone.

i was happy that i saw this film.

Filmiholic,

My favorite Indian commercial movie is "Trishul". Have you watched it. Although Deewar is a better movie, I enjoy Trishul more. Both Amitabh and Sanjeev Kumar (who was a very good actor) have done a good job.

Jhaji, namaskar.

Thanks for the film additions/corrections and, of course, now that you mention it, I can see the likeness to the RK Laxman character!

nameste,
loved the list of reference films...lol.
it was all used just as an effort to enhance the form i was exploring to tell the story.
list cannot be completed if we dont add film 'josh' in it...lol,also small correction, raju hirani was in process of writing and finalising the script and chasing sharukh khan for the film-munna bhai in march 2002,while i was shooting *praan jaye...*so 'munna bhai-mbbs' is not there and how.
also not to forget to mention that i loved to know that you liked the speech in the end on plight of common man in society, pity on me could have improved on the wig though...
just to correct and add, he was the charachter taken from famous RK LAXMAN'S creation and he was the 'common man' himself from his classic cartoon 'YOU said it...' from TIMES OF INDIA.I feel very proud to do this and sum up the film,my film was dedicated to middle class where our roots are in india.
warm regards,
it was a festive week back home,
cheers,
jhaji.

Oh I'm glad you pointed out the little Gandhian bit - I liked that too. After all, that's kinda the whole point of life, really.

[...] The convention of setting the film in a densely packed location like this allows the director to examine the lives of more characters than most movies (think of Altman’s dizzying and delightful Gosford Park for a similar arrangement), but it certainly is an ambitious choice for someone making their first film. That’s an awful lot of storylines for the director and scriptwriter - Mahesh Manjrekhar, who also does a turn as the ineffective thug Munnabhai - to keep straight (and resolve).
Thats a wonderful review and I envy you that you got so much more filmi references :D

And I´m right with you on saluting sanjays courage to take on such a huge amount of storylines. And in a first film that is.
