I agree with you that it's a good story; I too got annoyed with the overly long shoot-out (and the overly long and completely unnecessary songs with Kareena writhing in tiny outfits). It could have been a really GOOD film but....boy toys got in the way AGAIN.

BTW, being an Angrezi (or is that Amriki) myself, I could not agree more with you about subtitles! It really puzzles me why they are so bad (I wrote a rant on the subject on my blog); especially for big releases like this one.

Tashan was what we call a total time-pass. I agree though that the same stills do get boring. You've made it look good though!

Shweta, enjoy, and see if don't agree that the opening credits are terribly unimaginative, and look more like a trailer for the film.

Neelam, well, yes, but it all depends on one's tolerance for trash, doesn't it? :-)

Once the Big Finale started, I got terribly bored. The only 2 things that got a rise out of me were the jet ski shot, and Kareena's coup de grace.

I got the stills from the YRF site (not from the Tashan site).

This is one thing that surprises me about Yash Raj Films, and even young filmmakers coming up: they do almost nothing to make resources available to the press.

Never mind that just about everyone is so paranoid about piracy that we almost never get screenings beforehand, but even simple basics, like a decent press kit with all the interesting back story about how the film was made and how the director was inspired by something he witnessed when passing through VT, etc etc, there's none of that, and the other glaring ommission is easy access to high res photos.

And don't get me wrong, it's not that I've got anything againt YRF. I've been to Yash Raj studios recently, and it's an amazing operation they have there, which is why it's all the more jarring that there's this total disregard for one aspect of promoting a movie.

One exception to this is Madras Talkies. When they released Guru last year, the press kit contained a CD with a ton of images from the film, as well as 'making of' shots, showing the actors and director on location. This is much appreciated, so that every article, blogpost, etc. that comes out doesn't have to rely on the same few images, that we all (consumers and producers) rapidly tire of seeing.

Hi, I found Tashan to be a trashy movie. Gave me a severe headache at the end. I saw quite a few people walking out (I guess they were smarter). I am surprised you liked it. And even more surprised by the length of your review.

BTW, did Yash Raj films give you the stills or did you pick them up from their site?

Hey Nic, thanks, good catch.

Yeah, it seems this misstep with the multiplexes is really hurting. And this would have been a perfect movie for the multiplexes.

It is an enjoyable time-pass; a perfect escape.

Good review there, filmi. Seems like a time-pass movie to me though surpisingly initial reports suggest that its not doing very well at the box office.

Regarding the "seedhi saadha" description in u r review, assuming its not a typo -
In Hindi while referring to a girl it should be "seedhi saadhi"
and while referring to a guy it should be "seedha saadha".
