Joseph, well, that's why I qualified what I was saying. I think so many of us have so many reasons for seeing movies....aside from the escape factor and the desire to be entertained, in some other cases, the motivation is that it's a big release, and you want to see it right away and not be the odd man out when everyone else has rushed to watch it, or it stars someone really big, and you don't want to miss the performance, or, as I mentioned, you really do enjoy spending an hour or two gazing at some unattainable beauty, who's been magnified several times over for your enjoyment.

Yes, monologues were rather heavygoing in many places.

BW, great reading there! Thanks for sharing that. It must be a real drag to go through all that work, you release it, then everyone piles on in the space of a few hours. I was chatting with someone over the weekend who said "What did you think of it?" and I pointed out a few smaller details that bothered me, and the response was along the lines of "oh, who's the critic now!" and I thought "Well, you asked me!", but then I wrote back words to the effect that, when it is a work by the man who gave us Company and Satya, when something else he does falls short of the heights those films reached, you do feel a little disappointed, because you know what he's capable of doing.

I resist the term 'critic' anyway. I'm a fan, an ardent enthusiast, and, like everyone else, I have a reaction to what I watch. These are just my observations and those reactions.

One brief moment that I didn't mention before, but that I thought was beautifully done was at the 60th birthday rally at Subhash Nagre's residence, as he descends into the crowd and pauses before the little girl who throws color on him, and you hold your breath for a second and then he scoops her up in his arms, I thought that scene and the one where AB chats with his grandson, these were some lovely sketches of this man's life which felt very genuine.

Looks like RGV had enough of the "critics".

The plot thickens! I can imagine all the critics forming a committee to come up with a fitting rebuttal: a movie where RGV's character has to read their reviews repeatedly to the score of govindahgovindahgovindah.....

Hi Maria,
I'm surprised that you even liked it this much. What made Sarkar I good in the first place was AB Sr.'s understated performance---in Sarakar Redux every time he speaks it's one long and arduous sermon.Very below par effort from RGV------but then again hasn't that been the case for his last 15 films!
